Designers and artists look for patterns for reference when they work and I plan to put up different kind of patterns for them to use, patterns from all over the world. They could be just paintings on walls or decorations on buildings, or designs on textiles and carpets.
This is just a first of these kinds of posts. These photographs are from the inside of the domes of the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. This mosque is also known as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque. It is called the Blue Mosque because of the blue tiles adorning the walls of its interior as can be seen in the photos.
As the ceiling was very high the flash did not work and therefore the pictures are not very sharp.
Islam does not allow paintings inside of mosques, and thus the decorations are the effect of tiles of different hue. it must have taken a lot of painstaking work to get the effect of paintings.
